this is about the real journey, not the highlight reel
Most of what you see online is polished. The beautiful demo that makes you wish you looked like dancing. The perfect execution that looks like it feels so nice (and not painful). The “look what I can do” moment.
What you don’t see is the years of figuring it out. The breakthroughs that disappear. The thing that finally clicks at 2am during a social when you weren’t even trying. The injury that set you back. The teacher who said one sentence that changed everything.
This is that documentation. The messy middle. The actual path. The finding out what really works to unlock head movement that is safe, feels good, works for your body, is sustainable, etc. etc. etc.
the goal is synthesis (we get enough fragments)
The knowledge about head movement in Zouk is scattered across workshops, corrections on the dance floor, conversations that don’t get recorded. You get a piece at one congress, a different piece six months later that contradicts it, and then three years after that, both pieces suddenly make sense at the same time.
I’m doing the work of collecting those fragments, talking to the people who hold them, and putting them into a form you can actually use. Not as dogma but as a map you can check against your own experience.
this a holistic, body-informed perspective
I come to this with a background in healthcare and deep somatic and neuromuscular awareness. I ask questions like: What does a body actually need to move this way? What’s happening structurally, neurologically, somatically? What are the hidden barriers (physical, psychological, habitual, etc.) that keep dancers stuck?
This isn’t technique tips divorced from context. This is technique grounded in what the body requires.
we are here for the same reason
For the dancers who’ve been told seventeen different things and still don’t quite have it.
The goal is to get to the best possible information all together and sorted out about what actually unlocks head movement that works well and feels good.
Contribute your own valuable insights and experiences so we can make this better and easier for all of us. What’s your body’s experience? What helped? What didn’t? What am I missing? This only gets better when more voices join.

Some people learn the hard way. Let’s not do that with head movement.
